13th - 15th June 2008: BKSA Freestyle Kitesurfing Championship Round 2

EVENT ACTIVITIES:

As last year Earnse Bay will be the venue and the event will be held over three days. Pro riders and crew will arrive on Thursday 12th and will be available for media interviews and photos, some riders will be practicing weather permitting.

Provisional schedule of events:

On Friday 10 am onwards weather permitting the Pro men and women will compete.
On Saturday 10 am onwards some of the remaining fleets will compete.
On Sunday any remaining fleets will compete and results and prize giving will take place at a scheduled time of 4pm but subject to change.

Other activities include:

  • Trainer kite taster lessons.
  • Short safety and skill sessions on a small foil trainer kite for members of the public.
  • Display kites, including a flying 80’ gecko.
  • Large single line kites in the shape of animals and very visually pleasing, these kites will be flying in winds from 5mph up to about 18mph only.
  • Landboarding and kite buggying, (light wind contingency). These are land based kite activities including 4 wheeled mountain boards and 3 wheeled sit in buggies that are pulled by large foil kites and can perform in less wind than the kitesurfing.
  • Kite kat kite powered boat, (light wind contingency). These are about 4m twin hulled fibreglass boats with a seat that are pulled by kites on the water, these kite kats can also perform in light winds.
  • Thundercat race boat demos, (light wind contingency) These boats are the water equivalent of F1 car racing and pull 2.5G on the turn. They have a better power to weight ratio than An F1 car and great fun for jumping waves and on flat water. There will be at least two boats on display and will be on the water at various times during the weekend especially in light wind as a contingency.
  • On site catering throughout.

We hope to repeat the success of last years Saturday Night Bash at Vickerstown Institute which featured the local band "Sevens" and which was a talking point until the end of 2007 among the riders and crew. This year will one again feature Sevens (who have now signed a recording deal), an Expix slideshow, and hot food.

After the amazing response to the wooden carved trophies presented to some of the riders last year Gary has been commissioned to provide the trophies for the whole season and they will be presented at the end of the year at a black tie do in Brighton.
